Happy Thanksgiving to all you Canadians from the Kurdistan Region of Northern Iraq! Sorry it has been so long since I updated you on the situation here. Things really haven’t changed much since last I wrote. There is lots of talk about the Erbil International Airport shutting down completely because they can’t afford to keep it open without the International Flights to pay the bills. In the meantime, all of us that have remained in the country have purchased Turkish Visas in case we need to drive across the border into Turkey to get a flight out… However, Turkey is also threatening to close its borders. Also, I am still unable to go across the border into Iraq from the Kurdistan region to work in Qaraqosh so it is very frustrating for me right now.
At the moment we are just kind of waiting everything out to see what is going to happen. Our security team will advise us sometime this week as to how to proceed.
In the meantime, we currently have 16 more homes in progress and I have two very capable national staff, Mwafaq & Revan (see attached pics), running things in Qaraqosh… we do miss being able to work together on the project. Also, the Church Board in Qaraqosh is asking when I will be able to return, as we have established a good working relationship up to this point.
